Hyundai's strategic return to Algeria signals growing confidence in the country's automotive market and investment climate. Investors should monitor Hyundai's progress in establishing its distribution network and the ramp-up of its manufacturing plant. Success in Algeria could position Hyundai as a key player in the North African automotive market, potentially impacting regional supply chains and competition.

Hyundai is making significant strides in its return to the Algerian automotive market, with plans to launch its distribution network in the third quarter of 2026. Majestic Autos, the exclusive distributor for Hyundai Motor in Algeria, has signed partnership agreements with ten independent operators to establish this network. This initial phase will cover 14 wilayas (provinces), including Aïn Defla, Annaba, Blida, Bouira, Boumerdès, Chlef, El Oued, Jijel, M'sila, Ouargla, Relizane, Skikda, Tipaza, and Tizi Ouzou.

Hyundai's return to Algeria follows a previous venture that ended in 2020. The South Korean automaker aims to establish a lasting and well-structured presence throughout Algeria. This strategy involves building a national network that meets Hyundai's international standards while adapting to the specific requirements of the Algerian market. The company aims to provide a premium customer experience focused on safety and satisfaction.

Hyundai is investing approximately $400 million in a manufacturing plant in Algeria in partnership with the Omani group Saud Bahwan. The plant, located in the Sidi Khettab industrial zone in Relizane Province, is expected to be operational by 2027. Production is slated to begin with affordable SUVs and utility vehicles in 2026, followed by sedans, city cars, and eventually electric vehicles. The plant will have the capacity to produce compact SUVs and sedans.

The expansion of Hyundai's network will continue in the coming weeks and months, with additional wilayas being added as new partners are selected. These partners must meet specific criteria related to infrastructure, human resources, and service quality. The operational model for these partnerships is based on three key pillars: a stock of 100% original spare parts, the use of diagnostic tools certified by Hyundai, and continuous technical and operational training for local teams.

Looking ahead, the official launch of Hyundai's distribution and service network in the third quarter of 2026 will mark a new phase for the brand in Algeria. The company unveiled models intended for the local market at the Intra-African Trade Fair in Algiers in September 2025, including the Tucson, Creta, Accent, and Grand i10. Hyundai is seeking final approval from the Algerian government for the plant's construction by the end of 2026.
