The Algerian-Qatari-German Hospital represents a strategic investment in Algeria's healthcare sector, potentially reducing the outflow of Algerian patients seeking treatment abroad. Companies in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, and medical equipment sectors should assess opportunities arising from this new facility and potential expansion of Algeria's healthcare infrastructure.
The Algerian-Qatari-German Hospital project, located in the new city of Sidi Abdellah, is expected to be delivered next year, according to Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Agency for Investment Promotion. Rekkache confirmed the rapid progress of the health facility during a field visit to the project. The hospital aims to develop medical infrastructure to international standards.
The hospital, a collaboration between the Algerian Ministry of Health and Qatari holding company Estithmar Holding, will also include a training institute for medical staff. The project reflects the desire of both countries to strengthen their relationship and develop the health sector in Algeria. An agreement to launch construction was signed in Algiers on October 12, 2023, with representatives from both the Algerian and Qatari sides, including Minister of Health Abdelhak Saihi and Qatar's Ambassador to Algiers Abdulaziz Ali Al Naama.
The 300-bed hospital will feature 30 intensive care units, 15 operating rooms, 40 outpatient clinics, and 20 emergency bays. It is projected to serve over 250,000 outpatients and 25,000 inpatients annually. The hospital will offer specialized health services, including complex heart treatment, liver transplantation, neurosurgery, scoliosis, tumor surgery, and chemotherapy, reducing the need for Algerians to seek treatment abroad.
Estithmar Holding, through its subsidiary Elegancia Healthcare, is partnering with the Algerian Ministry of Health on the project. CEO of Estithmar Holding, Mohammed Badr Al Sadah, emphasized the hospital's significance in meeting the medical needs of Algerian citizens. The hospital is designed to elevate national healthcare standards by offering a wide range of specialized treatments supported by advanced medical technology.
Investors should monitor the hospital's progress and its impact on the Algerian healthcare landscape. The opening of the Algerian-Qatari-German Hospital in 2026 could lead to increased demand for specialized medical services and create opportunities for companies in the pharmaceutical, medical equipment, and healthcare technology sectors. The success of this project may also encourage further foreign investment in Algeria's healthcare infrastructure.
