The focus on strengthening Algerian-Croatian bilateral ties signals potential opportunities for international investors. Energy executives should monitor potential partnerships between Sonatrach and Croatian firms, while construction companies should assess infrastructure projects in Algeria. Keep an eye on upcoming high-level bilateral events for announcements of new agreements or projects.

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, met with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in Zagreb on March 30, 2026, to discuss elevating bilateral cooperation. The discussions also involved Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, Gordan Grlić Radman. The Croatian Prime Minister conveyed condolences to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Algerian people on the passing of former President Liamine Zéroual.

The meeting served as an opportunity to examine various areas of cooperation between Algeria and Croatia, with the goal of strengthening them to serve the interests of both nations. Minister Attaf expressed gratitude to the Croatian Prime Minister for the solidarity shown toward Algeria and conveyed President Tebboune's commitment to injecting new momentum into bilateral relations. Algeria recognized the Republic of Croatia on April 24, 1992, and established diplomatic relations on October 15 of the same year, marking the beginning of formal ties.

In 2024, Algeria's exports to Croatia totaled $182 million, consisting primarily of petroleum gas ($173 million), cement ($7.7 million), and hydrogen, rare gases, and other non-metals ($844,000). Over the past five years, exports from Algeria to Croatia have increased at an annualized rate of 98.1%, from $5.95 million in 2019. Croatia's exports to Algeria in 2024 amounted to $16.7 million, mainly including cranes ($10.9 million), sawn wood ($2.69 million), and vegetable and mineral carvings ($689,000). Croatia's exports to Algeria have increased at an annualized rate of 17.1% over the past five years, from $7.57 million in 2019.

Enhanced cooperation between Algeria and Croatia could lead to increased trade and investment opportunities for companies in both countries. Algerian energy companies like Sonatrach could explore further partnerships with Croatian firms in the energy sector. Croatian companies specializing in construction and infrastructure could find opportunities in Algeria, given Algeria's focus on diversifying its economy.

Both countries are preparing for upcoming high-level bilateral events, which may serve as catalysts for further agreements and initiatives. Continued dialogue and engagement will be crucial to monitor the progress of these discussions and identify potential opportunities for collaboration. Investors should pay close attention to any announcements regarding new agreements or projects that may arise from these high-level meetings.
